How to wear an overcoat
Overcoats come in all sorts of styles and and lengths, which can make it difficult to choose. The traditional is generally a single breasted coat with lapels at the opening at the top, longish, finished roughly to the knee. Because it’s traditional doesn’t mean that it has to be worn in a traditional way. Our Epworth cashmere and wool coat fits into this category, and can be worn in a more casual way, say, with jeans or our new Siberia drawstring flannel trousers and our chunky Kincorth roll neck sweaters, it will look anything but formal. However, for a more formal take, wear over a jacket or suit and add a Luxury wide alpaca scarf to create a sophisticated urban look.
Our new Hanbury short coat in Moss Green, sometimes called a car coat, buttons right up to the neck without lapels, is made from 100% cotton brushed moleskin in an amazing dark green. This fabric will soften with wear, and look casual, worn with any outfit. Try it with our Hoi Polloi long sleeved Polo sweater for a really casual and rugged look.
The Dorchester coat is longer in length like the Epworth, and buttons to the neck like the Hanbury. It’s made in 100% fine English Merino wool and has a flash of colour on the under collar which shows when you put the collar up to create an interesting and fun detail. It also has a storm tab to close the neck when the weather is really cold and windy.
Choosing which size to buy can be a bit of a problem, as deciding what you will wear underneath has to be considered. Buy with a little extra room so you can have a few options, or as some people do just wear a bigger size to create a fashionable oversized vibe.
Style tip, its a great idea to have a scarf to wear with your coat. It can be worn tucked inside the coat to keep you really warm or wrapped around your neck a couple of times for an extra flourish. Choose a different colour or pattern to give it even more fun and personality. Choose from our new range of beautiful 100% alpaca scarves, which are made in England and available in lots of colours and two sizes and are soft as cashmere. A real touch of luxury to keep you warm.
