The Secret Inside.....

Why should you care about the lining?

A great suit keeps its secret hidden. It’s the detail no one sees but tells a lot about the jacket and the wearer. At Mr Start we believe that it's what's on the inside that matters. Because corners can be cut when no one is looking.

The lining is both decorative and fundamental to the quality of the garment, helping it stay in shape and hang correctly. You can literally feel the quality when you put it on.

Then there is the self expression in the choice of colour or pattern of the lining, which to us is part of the joy of owning a beautiful made to measure suit or jacket.

You have several options when it comes to lining, each with their own benefits.

Fully Lined: this is normally what most people go for, as you get to see the lining all through the inside of the garment and sleeves. You can choose to have contrasting lining in the sleeves, and even different coloured panels should you wish. If you are buying your suit for a special occasion, we can work with your colour schemes in the details to create something unique to you.

Half Lined: This is when the shoulders and sleeves are lined, but the back of the jacket is left exposed. it gives you the structure on the shoulder whilst giving you a cooler feeling garment. This is a great option for a summer wedding, say, where you wan't a garment that is lighter in weight, but holds its shape beautifully.

Deconstruct/Unlined: This requires the most work as all of the inner seams have to be finished and trimmed perfectly. This can look beautiful as you can see the reverse side of the fabric which is often a different shade, and can also be cooler to wear as it allows the air to circulate. The seams are all trimmed in what's called a bias tape made from a lining colour of your choice. Its a lightweight and softer constructed option for high summer.

Choosing between full, half or deconstruct lining is just one of the small decisions about the many personal details that goes into the making of every Mr Start suit.

Wear it well.
