What is it like to have a suit or jacket made to measure?

Most of us aren’t really a standard size, or we want something that doesn’t exist. Therefore we end up with something that’s a bit of a compromise. 

Made to measure is not exactly cheap, but good things rarely are. 

What you should expect is firstly good service with someone to listen and guide you through the experience.  

There should be an understanding of how the garment is planned to be used and an idea of the style that you are looking for.  Sometimes it’s difficult to articulate style, understanding this and guiding you through it is part of the process and can be really fun. 

Then there is the measuring.  We keep samples of our various models so you would be able to try on our different styles, all designed by Mr Start and unique to us. We will then decide the kind of fit you would like for your jacket, trouser or suit - there are almost as many options for trouser styles as there are for a jacket!

Details like the width of lapels, length of jacket, type of pocket and much more will then be chosen along with your lining fabric - there are many different colours or patterns, so you can choose something special that reflects your personality  - half lined or fully lined. 

Lastly,  there are the buttons which can make an enormous difference to the look of the jacket and are very underrated.  You can change the look of your jacket and suit by choosing the right button, depending on whether you are going for a classic or more contemporary style.  As an example, on a navy blue jacket if you were to put on a navy button it would not read and would not really be noticed. On the other hand, if you were to put a cream button or a lighter grey one it would change the whole look.
